Besides providing pet services to our customers, we also have dogs available for adoption. I have been involved in Dachshund Rescue since 1994, but did not actively pursue it as a passion until 1995. I have placed over 700 dogs in wonderful, loving homes in the past 17 years. My rescue name is:

Dachshund Rescue of St. Louis

My purpose is to take a dog in from the pound, owners, or breeder throw aways. I know some rescues do not take from Breeders, but every dog deserves a home even if it means that the dog has out lived it's purpose from said breeder. When I get them in, I place them in loving foster homes or my home to be rehabilitated. Some of our dogs have never known a bed or soft touches. It is amazing how just a few loving touches can turn a shy, scared dog into a sweet and loving animal that will thrive in a new home. None of our dogs will go to their new homes until they are comfortable with their new life. Our foster mommys and daddys will be available to answer any questions that you may have so that we make sure that we place your family with the right dog.

All of our dogs come spayed/neutered, updated shots, micro chipped, and heart worm negative or been through heart worm treatment and any other medical problems they have- all of our vetting services are done through:

Hartz Second Chance Spay/Neuter Clinic

NOTE: THIS CLINIC DOES PUBLIC SURGERIES - GIVE THEM A CALL FOR GREAT SPAY/NEUTER PRICES!!

Adoption process

I speak with people over the phone to get an idea of what they are looking for in a companion pet. I ask that they fill out an adoption application so I can try to make the best match possible; otherwise I am wasting your time, the pet's time, as well as my own. We do a vet reference check and home visit. I am available seven days a week for my rescues.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not do adoption events to include Petsmart or Petco - you must come to the foster home to meet them so you can see what the dog will be like in your home after the adjustment period

The adoption fee is between $200 and $300 for adults and $350 for puppies. We do discount senior dogs. The adoption fee covers the cost for spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart worm testing, worming, heart worm and flea preventive, micro-chipping, grooming, and placement in the foster home while the pet is homeless. Once a selection has been made, you will be required to fill out an adoption contract. The first one to two weeks is often the most challenging and there are always a few issues to iron out. So if the pet does not work out within the 2 week period, your adoption fee will be refunded. However, I will always take him/her back. I do NOT want to see an animal taken to the pound, the humane society, or worse, dumped!

If you are interested in meeting any of our available Dogs, please fill out our adoption application on this site also For a list of available dogs please visit http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IL556.html
